If you are tempted to answer an advertisement in your local newspaper, or an online advertisement, please be very careful. Ask yourself whether the statements as to potential earnings etc are realistic.
One common internet scam relating to craft assembly work at home opportunities is the offer of a “list” or “package”. At first glance these promotions appear to be offering a list of places where you will be able to get a craft assembly home job. Sadly, that is not what you will receive if you pay for the craft assembly “package. This appears to be basically an offer to sell a list of companies who employ people to assemble different kinds of craft items at home. At best you will receive a list of companies that might (or might not) exist and that might (or might not) employ people to assemble craft items at home.
If you read the sales pages for some of these offers, you will probably notice that the “package” apparently includes items such as information about (the following is taken from an actual website offering craft assembly job package) “Commission Circulars/Mailing Letters; Envelope Stuffing; Get Paid To Mail Letters; Post Card Mailers; Distributorship/Direct Sales Opportunities; 100′s of Work at home opportunities; Newspaper Clipping; Mailing Postcards; Translation Work”. None of these is anything to do with craft assembly and many of them are well known scams.
Another common scam is where the company offering the craft assembly job require you to purchase equipment or materials from the company. You have to send the assembled items to the company for checking against their quality standards. Sometimes you will have to pay a fee for this inspection.
No finished items are ever accepted. You will be told that they are not up to standard. If you want to have the items returned to you so you can try to get them to the right standard, you will have to pay the company a handling fee and shipping costs. These companies are not interested in paying you for the assembly work; they make their money out of the sale of equipment and materials, and the fees they charge.
